If your plans include exploring the
Highlands and Islands of Scotland then youll
most likely have to pass through Inverness. As
a transportation hub, Inverness is well served by a
network of bus and train routes which radiate out in
all four directions.
Inverness is an excellent base from
which to make daytrips to neighbouring attractions.
The most famous one, Loch Ness, is well served
by frequent bus tours from Inverness. The loch
starts just 5 miles outside of Inverness. Even
if you dont spot the monster itself, thoughtful
local vendors will be able to sell you a cute stuffed
one!
To the
east of the city lies the famous Culloden moor, site
of the bloody battle in 1746 which marked the defeat
of the Jacobean cause.
